I am a formally trained graphic designer and artist who left corporate America to become an art educator and activist. My journey began in 2003 when I proposed and later developed the art program for the Montclair Cooperative School that supported their approach to interdisciplinary learning. Since that time, I have co-developed a number of key initiatives for the school including the Museum Studies, Media Literacy, STEAM and the Electives programs.
Adopting a performative, process-based approach, I have created art activism and beautification programs that have extended beyond the Montclair Cooperative School to involve the greater Montclair community. Working in partnership with Montclair Films, Montclair Art Museum, Montclair High School, Montclair Literary Festival and local businesses, these programs involve a creative orchestration of collaborative encounters and conversations, which included art workshops, speaking events and public art exhibits that engage young people in important issues such as immigration, climate change and media literacy.
